Rock Band Unplugged by MTV Games Review

Rock Band Unplugged by MTV Games is the first ever portable version of the game. Made for the PlayStation Portable gaming console, this game alone would make buying a brand new PSP a must. Developed by MTV Games, you can be sure that this game will have the best and coolest music for you and your friends to play or sing.

This portable version is a welcome miracle to those who love bringing their Rock Band kits with them every time they stay overnight at a friend's place or go on an out of town trip or something. But how does this work. Obviously, you will need 4 PSPs connected via Bluetooth in order to play the game as a band. What you'll be doing is tapping on a particular button depending on which color is hitting the line. It's kind of like playing the original video game using a controller instead of an instrument.

For the singer in the group, you can sing into the new handy microphone that comes with the new PSP 3000. Why else should you get this Rock Band UMD? Well firstly, there are plenty of songs included in this game that are only available in this version. Also, the game looks great on the PSP screen. The colors are bright and the images are large enough so you won't go blind staring at the moving circles.

If you love playing this game, but you want a more portable version of the game which you can bring everywhere you go, then you should buy Rock Band Unplugged by MTV Games.

Hugh Jackman's 'Sexiest' Secrets

Declared 'Sexiest Man Alive' by People magazine last November, Hugh Jackman must have some specific secrets to keep his body gorgeous. The 40-year-old Australian film, television and stage actor claims that a very rigid diet of proteins and veggies is one main reason why he was able to maintain his fit figure. Another reason, he states, is the fact that he follows an equally rigid exercise regimen, working out six days a week in order to keep his muscles toned and his fat content down.

And rigid means rigid. Jackman insists that he lets himself get a small treat only every now and then. "I get up at 4am and eat egg whites, then every three hours after that. I have a combination of protein or steamed vegetables and brown rice. Then after midday, no rice or carbohydrates. It's just vegetables and meat or fish," he explains in a recent interview.

"I'm not going to live this way for the rest of my life. I do have treats, I love dark chocolate, beer and red wine. I love going out for dinner and do cheat sometimes.

"I train for an hour and a half a day, five days a week - weights, treadmill, rowing, everything. Then I do what my trainer calls ''a play session'' on the sixth, which previously would have killed me in itself," he adds.

His 'Sexiest Man' status stemmed from Australia, the Baz Luhrmann epic he starred in with fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman. Released in late November in both Australia and the US, audience members witnessed Jackman as a self-sufficient, gruff cattle drover who helps Kidman, who plays an English noblewoman. Jackman's role was originally cast for yet another Aussie hottie, Russell Crowe.

The Emmy- and Tony-award winner is set to host the 2009 Academy Awards in February, and has already hosted the Tony awards thrice. Besides the Oscars, another one of Jackman's much-awaited projects is his upcoming film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which he both produced and starred in. He will also be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later this year.

Transformers - Comic Books to Movies

Going to the movies is a perfect summer time activity. Movie theatres are a place to cool down, eat some popcorn, drink a soda, and watch the latest box office hit. A trend for movie makers is to recreate comics and make them into movies. Transformers are no exception. The comic books have been made into a movie and the sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is now out for viewing. Transformers are all about action, adventure, and autobots.

The first Transfomers movie was about Sam Witwicky and his autobots saving the world from Decepticons. Autobots are robots and are the good guys in the movie, and Decepticons are the bad guys in the form of military or construction vehicles. In the new release, Sam is continuing his life after saving the world and is preparing to start his life as a college freshman. He is trying to live a normal life and has to leave his autobot, Bumblebee, at home. The autobots continue to defend the world from any decepticons that may not have previously been destroyed, and they understand why Sam has to leave them behind. The autobots continue to adjust to living on Earth with humans and are originally from another planet, Cyberton. While Sam sees how the autobots help save humans, one man thinks that all robots including autobots should be destroyed. He doesn't trust them living on Earth. Theodore Galloway, the National Security Advisor, plans to ban all autobots from earth. Sam helps the autobots who must convince the world they are here for a good reason. You can read more about the plot of the movie in detail at the Transformers Official Movie site (transformermovies.com). The movie stars Shia LeBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, Megan Fox, and Michael Bay. Sam Witwicky, the leading character, is played by Shia LeBeouf and the character's girlfriend is played by Megan Fox.

The Transformers comic books have been popular among readers since the 1980s. The popularity of the series has helped the movies become box office hits. The action of the autobots is perfect for an on screen performance. The comic series has been issued by four production companies. Transformers also include popular action character GI Joe. Besides being a popular comic, the Transformers series has also been successful as a toy line, television series, books, video games, theme park rides, and now a movie series. Comics are also the launch and starting point for other successful movies such as Spiderman and Batman.

MTV Virtual Worlds - A Precedent to Further Interactivity

When MTV first launched in the 1970s, it blazed a trail of exploring the possibilities of multimedia. A channel dedicated to music videos such as Video Killed the Radio Star was such a novel idea that it immediately caught the fancy of the up-and-coming generation of its time. Now will that same foresight be beneficial for MTV now that they are exploring the realm of commercial and free virtual worlds?

MTV has been intent on staying consistent to its brand of being a hip and cool choice for teenagers and yuppies alike by exploring the potential of virtual worlds in multimedia entertainment. For the past year, MTV have been launching virtual world counterparts of their signature shows such as a Virtual Laguna Beach, a Virtual Pimp My Ride, a Virtual Newport Harbor, and a Virtual Hills. Even Mariah Carey - the iconic diva of reinvention from her time in the 80s as a sultry belter to an RnB crossover regular in the 21st century - has entered the fray by instituting the Virtual Ford Model Search. This is a virtual platform where wannabe superstars can enter.

This is an interesting possibility for the field of entertainment. With these developments even television is joining the Web 2.0 phenomenon where virtual worlds are a part of. This opens up many interesting implications for end-users. If shows can have a virtual world of their own, then its fans can try to appear in its milieu and participate in its workings. Moreover, it may spell good things for television shows because a show must be popular at first to have a virtual world of its own - prompting end-users to support a show if they truly want to add this virtual world capability.

However, on the other hand, once this business model gains even the slightest hint of success, competing companies will try to jump at each other - confusing foresight with desperation - and diluting the industry in the process. There might be instances where a recently-launched show will be given its own virtual world immediately. Without a solid fan base, such decisions can prove to be detrimental to the overall growth of the show. It can also lead to lots of money lost in bankruptcy.

So how beneficial will this interactivity be for a television network? In the case study of MTV, the thrust of course has some financial and economic roots. It endeavors to level up the advertisement exposure to simple viewing of the ad in television screens to interaction with the brand itself.

MTV has a nice head start with this marketing move because their brand has come to be associated with quality content powered by Hollywood stars. If all goes wrong, then the television network company can rely back on their original television roots. This is why it is worth watching the developments of their virtual world television programs.

Recently, they established the Virtual Lower East Side which is the closest thing that MTV has to an interactive 3D environment virtual worlds with avatars, social networking and even some online games. There is an emphasis on the social interaction side here with dance clubs and high-end (virtual dining). But as it is, viewers will be able to gauge the quality of such virtual world. Similar to the real world, virtual worlds - whether they are branded by a powerful television network such as MTV - have to serve the users well with high-quality content in order to reach sustainable development.

Right now, the verdict is out on this virtual world experiment. Will it just be a fad or will it be the future of the World Wide Web?

Prescription Drug Addiction Examined by MTV's 'True Life'

Attesting to the widespread prescription drug problem raging among America's youth, The MTV reality show True Life recently aired a segment called I'm Addicted To Meds, which delves into the lives of two young Americans suffering in the grips of prescription drug addiction.

In the description of the show, the producers got it absolutely correct when they say that "prescription meds are fast becoming the drug of choice for millions of young Americans, who mistakenly believe them to be safer than street drugs."

The show covers the plight of two young adults who are "fighting to free themselves from the grip of these potentially lethal substances", both addicted to forms of narcotic painkillers that have thousands of people trapped by prescription drug addiction, and are among the most abused drugs in the country.

Dana, a 20-year-old from New Jersey who succumbed to prescription drug addiction as a teenager, began using drugs at the age of 12, and by 17 had settled on her drug of choice, Roxicodone, a generically-made form of the narcotic painkiller oxycodone. Roxicodone is designed to have an immediate release for rapid pain relief.

Evan, another 20-year-old, is an audio engineering student from Northern California. Evan experimented with drinking and drugs as a teenager until he tried the narcotic painkiller OxyContin, and immediately made it his drug of choice. OxyContin is a brand name for a time-release painkiller made from oxycodone.

Dana has been in and out of rehab 15 times, and is unable to attend school or hold a job. In the show, we see that she turns to cleaning to take her mind away from using Roxicodone for as many minutes as she can. She is struggling to stay in the halfway house in Florida where her parents have sent her for treatment. But she betrays family and friends, and ultimately herself, trying to escape her prescription drug addiction.

Evan has attended treatment centers in the past, and has been prescribed other drugs to help control his addiction. But he is still haunted by the feeling of escape and comfort that the drug brings him. He seems determined to stay clean, when his girlfriend comes to visit, he is put to the ultimate test, because she is also an OxyContin addict. Evan's prescription drug addiction pervades every aspect of his life as he struggles to regain a drug-free life.

Roxicodone, OxyContin, and dozens more other forms of oxycodone and hydrocodone have caused overdose deaths or injuries among thousands of young people. OxyContin is routinely abused by crushing the pills to defeat the time-release mechanism, and snorted like heroin or cocaine for instant effect. But oxycodone in any form is extremely addictive, and is so widely abused in some regions it surpasses heroin, morphine and other street drugs in popularity. In the Appalachian regions of the south-east, it has been known for years as "hillbilly heroin".

Before a narcotic addict can begin rehabilitation, he or she must spend some time in detoxification, called "detox", during which the body tries to overcome the physical aspects of the prescription drug addiction. Unless the detox is done at a good medical detox facility, it is often so painful that most don't complete it but return to their use of drugs. Once through that painful and often dangerous withdrawal period, rehab can begin to address the deeper, personal reasons for the addiction.

The only thing we would like to have seen in the show was some information about the advantages of detox protocols designed specifically for someone's unique DNA and metabolism, which greatly reduce the ill effects of detox. Called medical drug detox, such programs include 24/7 medical supervision to enhance patient safety and recovery.
